City promises, fails to follow up

I am not a complainer. My family has lived in Auburn for seven generations, and I love our city. I sing its praises.

I am not a complainer. My family has lived in Auburn for seven generations, and I love our city. I sing its praises.

One event, however, has given me discouragement: the Bulk Item Collection Event.

What a great idea to collect items no longer needed by families of the city. The directions for which week this event would happen were a bit awkward in the mailings, so people in our Lea Hill neighborhood put out items two weeks ago. No one came to collect them. These items were then gathered and put into the garages until last week. Then on collection day they were put on the sidewalks as instructed. Again, there was no collection truck.

This is so discouraging. If the City goes to the expense of advertising this event, it should follow up and collect the items. It’s no fun carrying these (often heavy) items to the sidewalk and then returning them when they were not collected.

There is enough criticism of government in our society today. Come on, Auburn, follow up on your promises. If you advertise that you will do something, then do it.
