Councilmember Hulsey should resign

So a city councilman with no honor questions the honor of a man with plenty of honor, Mayor Cy Sun?

I fail to see how Hulsey feels he has a right to continue on in his capacity as a city councilmember. He should resign, but he won’t, and I think the shame is further on him in light of recent revelations.

I’m all for forgiveness, even in situations where a man commits a crime and pays his debt to society, even while his actions for the conviction aren’t taken back. Maybe there is even room for forgiveness when you commit a serious felony and have lived life pretty straight for many years. But I think that forgiveness has limits.

State law says he is allowed to serve despite his felony murder conviction for which he served eight out of 20 years because he got his rights restored. But I don’t think, as a voter, I could ever trust an ex-con who committed murder, especially against his wife, any more than I could trust a child molester as an elected official.

The owner of a daycare facility or the owner of a nursing facility would never forgive a person convicted of murder enough to hire him to work with vulnerable populations. I feel that the same level of trust applies when voting for and effectively as a citizen, hiring a city councilmember.

In light of all this, I’m announcing today that I’m starting a recall campaign to force out Hulsey. I will, on my own time and dime, work to collect enough signatures to force a recall vote and give the citizens of Pacific a choice on whether Hulsey should be allowed to continue his service to the City of Pacific.

I also will work out an advertising plan using a combination of Facebook, leaflets, advertisements, prerecorded calls and door knocking that will allow me to effectively reach out to as many Pacific voters as possible.
