So the Auburn Reporter has joined the “let’s make fun of Sarah Palin” chorus. I’m referring to the commentary by Laura Pierce (July 10). This piece is standard liberal issue. I’ll explain.

The first step in any liberal diatribe is to give some excuse not to address the issue; in the column by Ms. Pierce, it was that Gov. Palin’s resignation announcement “was delivered in almost incomprehensible English.” After you’ve done that, you can begin the personal attacks.

I thought Gov. Palin’s explanation of why she was resigning was clear and reasonable. One reason was the series of accusations of ethics violations against her, all of which were frivolous and have been ruled baseless, but which have cost the state of Alaska over a million dollars.

They also have required considerable time and effort, distracting her and others in government from their duties. And it turns out that these accusations have cost her, personally, hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Then add to that the trashing she, and her family, have taken in the media. She has been attacked for everything from her hairstyle and her manner of speaking to whether her baby was hers or not.

Can you name another public figure who has been more thoroughly and more viciously attacked personally by and in the media? And while candidate Obama’s family was off limits, hers was public fodder, including her Down syndrome baby.

Usually the trashing of the losers stops after the election is over, but not for Gov. Palin. A couple of weeks ago, her 14-year-old daughter became the subject of a high school boy’s locker room joke on the David Letterman Show. Talk about crass.

What is it about Sarah Palin that brings out the worst in the left? More than that, what makes them feel that it’s OK to be so personally vindictive, rude and nasty mean to anyone?

Maybe Ms. Pierce could enlighten us. I’m sure the Auburn Reporter would be glad to print it.
