Let’s be clear: tech levy makes sense

Election day is around the corner and like many of you, I read the voter's guide to find out details on what I will be voting on.

Election day is around the corner and like many of you, I read the voter’s guide to find out details on what I will be voting on.

Reviewing the voter’s guide left me dismayed because of the falsehoods in the statement against the technology levy.

The claim that the district allowed union officials to divert monies is completely false. This is not a new tax, it is a renewal. It is not about teacher salaries, but a targeted capital project’s campaign to enhance and expand technology across the district for all students.

Auburn has proven time and time again their financial prudence in managing their finances. This is how we can vote to renew a levy and see no increased tax rates. District wide, student success is up, and our students are achieving comparable, and in many cases, better test results than more affluent districts.

Technology is here to stay and is a game-changer for education – it expands student learning, can better connect teachers and parents and makes our students prepared for continued education and careers in the future. Don’t take the groundless statements at face value. Read what the levy will do and how it is specific, targeted funding to expand and enhance student learning and achievement.

Let facts and reality guide your decision-making, and join me in supporting our students and vote yes to renew the technology levy Feb. 11.
