Mayor Lewis brings valuable presence

In reading the Auburn Reporter on Oct. 2, I was disturbed by Virginia Haugen’s statement that she “would probably not attend the meetings that Mayor (Pete) Lewis attends,” that she sees them “as a waste of time and money.”

Auburn is a community within the larger community of South King County. There is a necessary interdependence of our cities. It is imperative that we know and support each other.

To quote John Donne, the poet: “No Man is an island, no man stands alone.” No city stands alone either; we need to work and support each other. I think of the potential floods this winter season, we do not want to be isolated nor should we be in dealing with any issues.

I also need to say that Virginia Haugen diminishes “chitchat” in meetings. I see this “chitchat” as building relationships. We need positive relationship building.

Pete Lewis is aware of reaching out to the community of Auburn as well as being present as a spokesperson for Auburn in the extended communities. We need Pete Lewis as mayor.
