I am a Boy Scout in Troop 474 and am working on the communications merit badge. For one of the requirements, I have to write a letter to the editor of a local newspaper about a concern.
I would like to address the state of the roads in Auburn. The reason I am concerned about this is the number of potholes on our city’s streets. We have a lot of potholes throughout Auburn, and the City should be repairing them more frequently than they are.
Potholes are dangerous. Drivers are not always able to avoid them. If they hit a pothole, damage can be done to their vehicle. This is my family’s experience. In April, my dad was driving by Green River Community College on his way to work, and he could not avoid a pothole. His car sustained damage to the front driver side wheel and hubcap. It cost several hundred dollars to repair the car and rent a vehicle while the work was being done.
Potholes also can be dangerous for bike riders. Bikers may have to swerve around potholes and accidentally get in the way of oncoming traffic.
