Everyone is pretty familiar with the rules of a four-way stop, right?

Well, apparently not everyone. Especially at the intersection of M Street Southeast and 21st Street Southeast. This intersection seems to stupefy drivers. People either sit at the stop and use their cellphone or check something in their car when it is their turn to go. Not even that, some people obviously don’t know how to use a four-way stop and will run the sign when given a chance.

Accidents do happen at this four-way stop, not often but at peak times in the late afternoon and early evenings.

I am venting a little and my words are drenched in venom, but this is an ongoing problem. The City needs to look into putting a stop light system in place, nothing complex but more akin to the stop lights downtown. People are going to complain that it will cause traffic and what not, but do they realize that the entire city of Auburn gets backed up during the commute home?

In my honest opinion, this could help reduce the problems and the stupidity that goes on with this intersection.
