For the Reporter

Symphonic Legends with guest conductor Aram Demirjian comes to the Auburn Performing Arts Center for two performances.

The Auburn Symphony Orchestra’s final program of the season begins at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 30, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 1 at the PAC, 702 Fourth St. NE.

The concert includes exceptional works by French composer Édouard Lalo: the overture from his opera Le Roi d’Ys, based on the old Breton legend of the drowned city of Ys, followed by his dramatic cello concerto, featuring principal cellist Brian Wharton. Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 2 “The Little Russian,” one of his most carefree and celebratory works, was inspired by Russian folk songs.

Demirjian is associate conductor of the Kansas City Symphony.

Tickets – $35 adults, $28 seniors and $10 students – are available in advance online at auburnsymphony.org or by calling 253-887-7777, and will also be available at the door.

The box office opens 60 minutes prior to concert time and doors open 30 minutes prior to concert time.

A free pre-concert lecture takes place in the choir room 45 minutes prior to concert time, hosted by Demirjian and Dave Beck.

The concert is made possible in part by support from the City of Auburn.
