Shin, 18, and Sun, 16, were born in Seoul, South Korea, to a family of professional musicians. The siblings have won many local, national and international awards, individually and now as a duo.

Shin won Washington state’s Outstanding Artist Competition in 2007. Sun was the focus of a television documentary, “Musical Encounters.” The siblings attend Thomas Jefferson High School.

For winning the national competition, the duo received $2,000, provided by Dallas Weekley and Nancy Arganbright.

The three-tiered MTNA competitions begin at the state level. First-place winners of each state’s competition advance to a division competition. Division winners compete in the national finals.
