Community youth choir to present ‘Making Spirits Bright’ on Dec. 11

Rainier Youth Choirs will present its annual holiday choral concert, “Making Spirits Bright,” at 3 p.m. Dec. 11 at the Kent United Methodist Church, 11010 SE 248th St.

The concert will feature many holiday favorites, classics and contemporary selections and audience sing-a-longs.

“These young singers sparkle in performance, and are sure to add to everyone’s holiday joy,” said Leora Schwitters, RYC artistic director and founder. “The talent and musicality of each individual singer in each group make for a wonderful experience for the listeners.”

Soloists include: pianists Heather Messer, Kent homeschooler, and Jeremy Sigrist, Green River Community College; vocalists Sarah Martin, Jefferson High School; Dana Bygland, Kentridge High; Trevor Bygland, GRCC; Zach Martin, Jefferson; Deanna DaCosta, Auburn Riverside High; Cassidy Newell, Kentlake High; Stephanie Boutros, Tahoma High; Ian Lobdell, GRCC; Lily Jo Ayres, Kent homeschooler; Julia Wenndt, Northwood Middle School, Kent; Elana Cueto, Meridian Middle School, Kent; Tyson Powell, Meridian Middle School; Makoto Také, Mill Creek Middle School, Kent; and Janeé Green, Mattson Middle School, Kent.

Special accompaniments for the concert include: Jubilant Ringers, a youth hand bell choir from Des Moines; Matt Johnston on oboe, flute, and recorder; Donna Wenndt on viola and violin; Janice Moen, organ; and Lori McEwen, piano.

Rainier Youth Choirs consists of three auditioned groups – Bella Voce, Colla Voce and Consonare, spanning grades 4 through college age youth. Members come from Covington, Kent, Maple Valley, Auburn, Federal Way, Enumclaw, Issaquah and Renton.

Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for seniors/students if purchased in advance (available online at www.RainierYouthChoirs.org or $15/$12 at the door. Tickets are available at the door starting at 2:15. Doors open at 2:45 with festival seating. Season ticket holders have preferred seating.
