For the Reporter
A free double-feature movie – part of Auburn Days Festival weekend – will be shown at the historic Auburn Ave Theater on Saturday, Aug. 10.
Poe Construction and Adventure Books of Seattle sponsor the event.
Doors open at 9 a.m.
The first film, a short 1950s Atomic Age newsreel from Pathe News, begins at 3 p.m. The first feature is the classic sci-fi film, “Them!”, starring James Whitmore and James Arness, with Fess Parker – and a young Leonard Nimoy playing a smaller role as an Army sergeant in the communications room.
The second feature is the classic “American Graffitti – Special Edition”.
The films end at approximately 7 p.m.
In addition, hundreds of books will be distributed on tables in the main lobby. Bring books you don’t want, swap them out for ones you do want. The book swap runs Saturday and Sunday.
The theater is an official cooling station for the festival, with free bottled water and pop available to anyone. The bathrooms also are public.
