Purple Phoenix Productions presents a new show in its concert series, celebrating one of the most chart-successful American songwriting teams of the 1960s and ‘70s.

What the World Needs Now: The Bacharach/David Songbook comes alive at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Auburn Avenue Theater.

Popular vocalists Stacie Calkins, Christine Deaver, Bob DeDea and Kim Maguire perform nearly 40 songs written by the legendary songwriters in a two-hour concert, backed by the nine-piece Purple Phoenix Orchestra.

Bacharach and David wrote hit songs for many entertainers, including Tom Jones, Dusty Springfield, The Fifth Dimension, Herb Alpert, BJ Thomas and The Carpenters, but it was their long-standing association with vocalist Dionne Warwick that kept topping the charts. Tickets are $17 regular; $15 student/senior.
