“There’s no place like home,” and this summer the stage at Green River College has been home to local teens bringing their own brand of magic to an enduring favorite, “The Wizard of Oz.”

The cast of 38 aspiring thespians represents Heavier Than Air Family Theatre Company’s summer program for students ages 14-17. These convincing munchkins don’t come from a land over the rainbow, but from high schools in nearby neighborhoods that include Auburn Mountainview, Auburn Riverside, Kentlake, Kentridge, Kentwood, Kent Mountain View Academy, Tahoma, Bellarmine Prep and Kennedy Catholic.

Performances are 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 3 and Saturday, Aug. 4, with a 3 o’clock matinee on Aug. 4 in the Green River College Performing Arts Building, 12401 SE 320th St., Auburn.

With six weeks of hard work under their belts, the kids next door have embarked on a journey much like that of the characters they portray. Determined to pique imagination and transport audiences to the Emerald City, they ultimately remind theater goers that “home” is where the heart is.

All tickets are $12 advance purchase, $14 at the door. Call 253-833-9111, ext. 4966, for availability.
