MVYSO to finish 4th season with a bang

The Maple Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra caps its fourth regular season with a Big Bang! concert at 7 p.m. May 7 at the Shepherd of The Valley Lutheran Church, 23855 SE 216th St., Maple Valley.

The blowout concert celebration will feature Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E-minor, Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite, Rimsky-Korsakov’s Fandango and Alaborada, and more.

MVYSO’s full lineup of performing groups will be in the program. Also featured will be violin soloist Sarah Burwell, one of the MVYSO’s original eight members who has graduated to violin coach for the youth symphony. She studies with Cherlyn Johnson of Maple Valley.

A $5 suggested donation will be welcomed at the door.

Following the concert, the youth symphony will be moving into its summer stock season. They will perform at a variety of local events, including the Maple Valley Creative Arts Councils Arts Festival Gala, opening day at the Maple Valley Farmer’s Market, a Tacoma Rainiers Game, and the Fourth of July Fireworks at Lake Wilderness Park.

The MVYSO also will host a summer music camp Aug. 8-12.
