The Maple Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra welcomes new members for its second trimester, which begins Jan. 11.

Auditions will be held 5-8 p.m. on Jan. 4 at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 23855 SE 216th St., Maple Valley.

The MPVSO, established in 2007, has grown in size and musicianship. It now boasts three orchestra programs, including Beginning Strings, Philharmonia for students with two-four years of playing experience, and Symphony for students with four or more years of playing experience.

The orchestra plays for many community events. Special second-trimester performances include playing the National Anthems (both American and Canadian) at a Seattle Thunderbirds hockey game on Jan. 16 at the Showare Center in Kent, and the Waltz Gala Ball at Lake Wilderness Lodge on Feb. 5, among others.

Rehearsals will be held at the church.
