A city tradition for more than 60 years, Orting celebrates its Red Hat Days on Saturday.
The day features a breakfast, car show, fun and games, parade, live music, dancing, contests, food and other vendors.
In 1950, Orting’s first Red Hat Days event was held as a celebration of the beginning of hunting season. It has been a city tradition ever since.
Schedule of main events
• 6 a.m. – Hunter’s Breakfast at the Orting Eagles
• 10 a.m. – Red Hat Days Car Show in the city park; Potty Chair Races begin day of events
• 1:30 p.m. – Red Hat Days Parade. Live band and food from local vendors in the park following the parade.
• 8 p.m. – Dance at the Eagles Hall with Lawless as the feature band.
Event organizers’ notes: If you are not wearing a traditional red crusher hunting cap, the Keystone Cops will arrest you. Then it is off to the judge and you will be fined $2 and off to jail. To get out of jail you will drink a shot of whiskey, can of beer, glass of wine or a soda pop. As you can imagine, we have a lot of repeat offenders. … Special invitation to children: Show up at 1 p.m. to be in the parade. The theme is anything to do with hunting. There will be prizes for children.
