Visitors to downtown Auburn can play anything from “Chopsticks” to Chopin on five artistically treated pianos featured in the City of Auburn temporary art and music installation titled Pianos on Parade.

The second annual temporary art project was installed Thursday and will be on view and available for play until Aug. 26.

Artists worked to modify the musical instruments, giving each piano a new artistically-treated exterior.

Mary Ellen Bowers back-painted Plexiglas with an artistic interpretation of Sound Transit Plaza. Suzy Fountaine’s piano is a tribute to Elton John with a painted surface and mixed media elements. Michael Taskey, interprets Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) through hand-carved wood elements connected to the piano’s surface. Jaimie Terada piano’s painted surface includes elements of clouds and whimsical flying animals. Paul Nunn layers and bends vinyl records to create an overall piano-shaped sculpture made of records.

Pianos are on display and available for play in the following locations in downtown Auburn:

• MultiCare Auburn Medical Center, Atrium (interior)

• Auburn City Hall Plaza

• Adjacent to Station Bistro at Sound Transit Plaza

• Adjacent to Home Plate Pub in the B Street Plaza

• Adjacent to Zola’s Café at the corner of Main Street and D Street
