The Puyallup Fair is the perfect spot for guests of all ages to “Make their Escape.” However, the Sept. 9-25 Fair offers rides, food, entertainment and activities made just for kids.

SillyVille is an area of the Fair dedicated specifically for kids 10 and under. It features kid-friendly rides, adorable animals, tasty food and entertainment.

For kids who love to whirl and twirl the Dizzy Pass ride bracelet is available. For $25, kids can enjoy their favorite rides all day long Sept. 13-15 and 19-22. Or, on Monday, Sept. 12 kids can take part in Monday Madness, where they can ride the rides, play games, and eat select food for half price.

There is also plenty of free entertainment for youngsters. Kids 12 years and younger can get their face airbrush painted for free at Face Painting by Merry Makers. Then, kids of all ages can take part in the high energy, imagination adventure, Let’s Pretend Farm Time. The 30-minute show is interactive, using members of the audience as performers in the show. Kids can also get up close and personal with some of the most classic barnyard critters, such as goats, piglets, and farm birds at the Fair Farm. And in the Poultry Barn, kids have the chance to experience chicks hatching right before their eyes.

Kids can bring out their artistic side at the Pumpkin Carving contest, or the Vegetable Critters contest, both located in the Agriculture Department on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 10 a.m. Contestants’ pumpkins or vegetable critters will be their gate admittance at the Gold Gate on Sept. 17. Contestants must register online at www.thefair.com by Sept. 15 in order to participate in the contests.

In addition to fun and games, the fair also provides kids with educational opportunities, presented in a fun interactive way. Take your kids to the Planting Patch, where they can see giant pumpkins growing, along with grapes, strawberries, beans and other produce. When they visit Pioneer Farm, they’ll learn how to churn butter, turn wheat berries into flour, and other daily skills from the early American years.

The Traveling Farm is also available for kids, with 14 interactive stations they can learn where their food comes from and what is takes to care for plants and animals, presented by the Puyallup Fair Foundation. Kids can also learn about the great outdoors at the Northwest Outdoors exhibit, where they can practice trout fishing, snowshoeing, and more.

If adventure is what you’re looking for, look no farther than the all new Thrill Zone. Kids and adults alike can watch in awe as the MBS Mountainboard Big Air Team spins, flips and flies through the air. Then the audience will be amazed by the Big Aerial Show, where acrobats, jugglers and aerial artists will put on a show in the sky.

Or, if kids would rather be right in the middle of the action, they can participate in Wool Riders Only. In this fun-filled event, kids 6 and under attempt to hang onto an unpredictable sheep for six seconds for a chance to win prizes.

When the kids get hungry after all the fun, they can enjoy the SillyVille food court, where kid-sized portions, like the kids’ value menu and the Krusty Puppy are available.

Kids 5 and under get into the Fair free every day. However, Sept. 10 and 11 is BECU Free Kids’ Weekend, where all kids 18 and under get free admission. Download the required coupon at www.BECU.org/freekids and present it to the gate attendance for free admission.
