Rainier Youth Choirs to Celebrate Song on Saturday, May 20

Rainier Youth Choirs presents its final concert of its 10th anniversary season – Celebrate Song – at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 20, at New Hope Presbyterian Church, 19800 108th Ave. SE, Kent.

Longtime RYC singers, Sophia Heinz and Allie Orozco, sophomores at Tahoma High School and part of Ken Rigg’s choral program, will perform their award-winning “Flower Duet” (Duo des fleurs) from Léo Delibes’ opera Lakmé. Accepted by audition to the Seattle Opera Teen Vocal Studio, which they have attended weekly since fall 2016, their local private voice teachers are Kerstin O’Shields and Nancy Gregory.

Four graduating seniors will be featured in the concert: Duane Davis (Lindbergh), Cammryn Rhodaback (Green River College), Megan Rickey (Tahoma) and Amanda Ross (Liberty).

RYC develops the talents of singers aged 8-18 from the greater Auburn, Covington, Des Moines, Federal Way, Kent, Renton, Maple Valley, and Issaquah areas. Quality repertoire is sung artistically, including art songs, folk songs, blues, ethnic styles and contemporary music.

Auditions for fall enrollment may be scheduled through May for boys and girls entering grades 2-12. All groups meet weekly on Mondays from September through June and present three major season concerts. Prospective candidates are asked to apply online at RainierYouthChoirs.org.

Tickets for the concert are $15 adults, $12 seniors and students (12 and older), $5 for children younger than 12, if purchased in advance – available online at RainierYouthChoirs.org. Tickets at the door are $18, $15 and $5.
