A car struck a power pole on Algona Boulevard at Boundary Boulevard and left the road in the early morning hours of Jan. 1, seriously injuring two people.

Fire and medic units of the Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to the 3 a.m. accident and found a car in a ditch with two critically-injured people trapped inside. Firefighters had to pry open the car to pull the occupants, one of them unconscious, from the wreckage. Icy weather prevented Airlift from responding, so Medic Units transported both people to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
