Area chambers of commerce to hold Emergency Preparedness Symposium on Sept. 23

Auburn, Kent, Renton and southwest King County chambers of commerce will be conducting an Emergency Preparedness Symposium on Sept. 23.

Auburn, Kent, Renton and southwest King County chambers of commerce will be conducting an Emergency Preparedness Symposium on Sept. 23.

The conference will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at the ShoWare Center, 625 W. James St.

Representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Puget Sound Energy, FEMA and Washington State Business Continuity and Planning will be on hand to address concerns and answer questions.

There will be breakout sessions with respective cities as they discuss the threat of possible flooding in the Green River Valley in wake of repairs being made at Howard Hanson Dam.

Flood maps will be available for viewing. FEMA-certified flood insurers also will be on hand.

Refreshment will be available.

The Washington Trucking Associations will host a Sept. 1 luncheon for residents, businesses and farms that possibly will be impacted by winter flooding in the Green River Valley. The 11:45 a.m. meeting will be held at the Doubletree Guest Suites, 16500 Southcenter Parkway, Tukwila.

Featured speakers will be Doug Eglington, of the King County business relations and economic development, and a representative of the Corps of Engineers.
