An attic fire caused by an electrical short displaced six adults from their home located in the 28000 block of 118th Avenue Southeast in Auburn on Wednesday afternoon.

Damage to the home is estimated at approximately $10,000.

Residents called 911 at 12:40 p.m. after they noticed unexplained electrical malfunctions and smoke in their 1,500-square-foot, single-story home.

Two fire engines and a battalion chief from the Valley Regional Fire Authority responded and found an electrical short and a small fire in the attic space above one of the bedrooms.

Power was shut off to the home and the attic fire extinguished.

The residents will be staying in hotel rooms provided by their insurance company while repairs are made to the home.
