Auburn Adventist goes 0-2 at state 2B Hardwood Classic | Boys basketball

The Auburn Adventist boys basketball team wrapped up play at the Washington State 2B Hardwood Classic Boys Basketball tournament this past Saturday with a 72-67 loss in the second round to Okanogan at Veteran's Memorial Auditorium in Spokane.

The Falcons (22-4) battled to a 35-35 tie against the Bulldogs (21-6) before giving up 26 points in the third quarter and falling behind 61-43 going into the final frame.

Senior Charlie Fletcher led the way for Auburn Adventist with 26 points, including eight three-point shots on 18 attempts. Fletcher also had three steals.

Senior point guard Gabe Chaikin finished with 19 points and was 4-of-18 from behind the three-point arc, with four assists and four steals.

John Kelley added six rebounds for the Falcons and senior post Sheldon Sui had five points and five rebounds.

Matt Kelley chipped in with six points.

As a team the Falcons finished with 16-of-49 three-point shooting at 32.7 percent.

In the first round of the tourney Auburn Adventist fell 75-43 to Northwest Christian.

The team found itself in a 43-20 hole at the intermission and were unable to claw the way back into the game in the second half.

Chaikin had 15 points to lead Auburn Adventist, and Seui added nine points.

The 3-ball did not fall for the normally accurate Falcons in the contest, with just five of the team’s 29 shots from behind the arc finding the bottom of the net, 17.9 percent.
