Auburn apartment fire displaces 50 residents

A fire, ignited by an underground power transformer explosion, involved the Cedar Ridge Apartments in Auburn on Wednesday night.

A fire, ignited by an underground power transformer explosion, involved the Cedar Ridge Apartments in Auburn on Wednesday night.

According to a VRFA spokeswoman Kelly Williams, the fire forced approximately 50 people from their apartments in the 30800 block of 124th Avenue Southeast.

There were no reports of injuries.

Valley Regional Fire Authority firefighters responded about 8:44 p.m. to a report of sparks from a transformer box and found an underground transformer on fire. The fire knocked out power to the entire complex.

Puget Sound Energy crews worked to replace the transformer. Puget Sound Energy was able to restore power to all but two of the buildings.

Fifty displaced residents were relocated to apartments in a nearby complex.
