The City of Auburn is an Outstanding Employer for local public agencies.

For the Reporter

The City of Auburn is an Outstanding Employer for a local public agency.

The 2015 Community Employment Alliance (CEA) Awards honor state businesses, government agencies and nonprofit corporations that have made exceptional efforts to employ people with disabilities; and who by their recruitment, hiring, retention and promotion policies are role models in their community.

The City employs three clients through Trillium employment services:

• David Delaune serves as a mail courier in the City’s Multimedia Division;

• Craig Daly works in the Community Development & Public Works department performing administrative duties;

• Kasey Mayer is part of the maintenance crew at the Auburn Golf Course.

“This just fits into our goals of diversity, inclusivity and awareness at the City of Auburn,” said Mayor Nancy Backus. “It just makes perfect sense that we hire people of all abilities in our city to make sure the job gets done.”

The City has partnered with Trillium for eight years, and Backus encourages other cities and organizations to consider utilizing a supported employment program.

“It’s a win-win for everyone, all you need to do is give them a chance,” Backus said.

Finalists and award winners are honored at an Oct. 8 luncheon at the Salish Lodge in Snoqualmie.

The CEA is a nonprofit organization with a membership network of businesses and employment service providers for people with disabilities throughout the state. Its mission is to advocate, educate and partner for employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
