Auburn High School has expelled a student for allegedly setting up a “Auburn KillerClown” account, in misguided step with a national hoax that clowns are going to shoot, bomb or cause some other violence on school campuses.

And as might have been predicted, word about the account quickly spread to other schools in the district.

“There is no credible threat that we are aware of at this time, and all schools are still in session,” Auburn Police said in a statement Wednesday morning.

Meanwhile, police continue to investigate.

Auburn Police say they are in constant contact with the school district and its school officers to investigate any and all threats of violence to kids and to the broader community.

“We take these seriously and ask that you take this opportunity to talk to your kids about these actions,” police added. “Though kids may think these types of ‘pranks’ are simply just lighthearted ‘kids being kids’ … in this day and age, they are much more than that. They are a threat and taken just as that.”
