A 22-year-old Auburn man was allegedly involved in a one-car crash that left him and his passenger injured and landed the man in jail on a vehicular assault investigation.
On July 15, the Washington State Patrol (WSP) reported that a 22-year-old man was involved in a one-car crash on State Route 18 in Auburn. The 22-year-old driver and his 22-year-old male passenger were both injured and transported to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center, according to the WSP.
According to WSP, at about 10:50 p.m. July 15, the man was traveling eastbound on SR 18, approaching SR 167, when his vehicle lost control, spun out and struck the right-side guardrail. WSP stated that his vehicle continued along the right side of the barrier, facing the wrong way for about 50 feet.
WSP reported that the crash blocked the roadway for three hours and 51 minutes. According to WSP, the road was initially closed at eastbound SR 18. The closure was then moved to West Valley Highway, but drivers were still allowed to exit West Valley Highway, go straight and merge back onto eastbound SR 18.
According to WSP, drugs or alcohol were involved, and driving under the influence was the cause. According to the King County Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention jail lookup portal, the suspect was booked into the King County Correctional Facility at 3:48 a.m. July 16, and remains there.
