An Auburn man faces vehicular assault charges following a crash the evening of Jan. 6 that left an 80-year-old woman injured.
According to the Washington State Patrol (WSP), at 7:33 p.m. Jan. 6 at westbound State Route 164, just west of 151st Street, a 29-year-old Auburn man in a 2019 Cadillac Escalade crashed into an 80-year-old Enumclaw woman, who sustained injuries. WSP reported that drugs or alcohol were involved, and the cause of the crash was driving under the influence.
The Enumclaw woman was in a 2024 Toyota RAV4, which was totaled. The Auburn man’s vehicle was also totaled. WSP stated that flames were visible at the location.
According to WSP, the Auburn man sustained injuries, as did two other people in his vehicle. None of the four people in the Auburn man’s vehicle were wearing seatbelts. The Enumclaw woman was reported as wearing a seatbelt.
According to the incident summary, the Auburn man was traveling westbound, and the Enumclaw woman was traveling eastbound on SR 164 when the Auburn man crossed the center line and struck the Enumclaw woman. The roadway was fully blocked for approximately three and a half hours.
The Auburn man faces two counts of vehicular assault.
