Auburn man escapes house fire

Smoke alarm awakens resident

An Auburn man awakened by a smoke alarm escaped his burning home Monday night, the Valley Regional Fire Authority reported.

At 6:08 p.m. firefighters responded to reports of a two-story house on fire – a thermal column was visible on Lea Hill – near the 31900 block of 120th Place Southeast.

The resident told VRFA firefighters that he woke from a nap to hear smoke alarms and ran through the smoke and out of his house to safety.

A single-story house that shares a common wall with the burned unit, however suffered no fire damage, the VRFA said. An occupant of the single-story house made it out without issue, the VRFA reported.

There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters, but four Auburn residents were displaced and The Red Cross arranged accommodations for them.

VRFA crews received help from the Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority, King County Medic One and Zone 3 Rehab.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
