State of the City

Join Auburn Mayor Nancy Backus as she shares insights about Auburn in 2025 during her annual State of the City address at the Muckleshoot Casino and Events Center at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb 26.

In her address, “Our Auburn: Building a Shared Future,” Backus plans to talk about where the city has come from, where it’s at, and, most especially, what the next decade will look like in Auburn. She will even talk about what residents can expect a century from now. Doors open at 5 p.m. for a reception, with refreshments. The Muckleshoot Casino and Event Center is at 2402 Auburn Way S. It offers free parking in the garage and through the valet lot. Follow the blue ribbons on the floor and the signs toward the event center.

National League of Cities

Cheryl Rakes, Deputy Mayor of the City of Auburn, has been appointed to the National League of Cities (NLC) 2025 Public Safety and Crime Prevention Federal Advocacy Committee. Rakes was elected to a one-year term and will provide strategic direction and guidance for NLC’s federal advocacy agenda and policy priorities on crime prevention, corrections, substance abuse, gun violence, municipal fire policy, juvenile justice, disaster preparedness, response and recovery, and homeland security.

“Public safety and crime prevention are important topics that require collaboration across all levels of government,” said Rakes in a press release from the city. “I’m excited to work with my colleagues throughout the United States on solutions that make a measurable difference nationally, and right here in Auburn.”

As a member of NLC’s Public Safety and Crime Prevention Committee, Rakes will play a key role in shaping NLC’s policy positions and advocating on behalf of America’s cities, towns and villages before Congress, with the administration and at home.

Amy Daves and the Outskirts

Amy Daves and the Outskirts will perform at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 15 at Postmark Center for the Arts, 20 Auburn Ave. Amy Daves is a violinist /fiddler and vocalist who was raised on classical music under the influence of her parents, who met in the symphony in college. Twenty years ago, Daves defected from classical to country music and has since reveled in exploring many other genres. The Outskirts are an all-female trio featuring Amy Daves, Tammy Frost and Kristen Ferguson. Auburn Symphony Orchestra

Auburn Symphony will present “The Magical Music of Harry Potter” at 7 p.m. March 1 at the Federal Way Performing Arts and Event Center.
