The Auburn Optimist Club Dollars for Scholars recently selected five Auburn seniors for $500 scholarships.
They are:
• Cameron Nelson, Auburn High School. A hearing impaired graduate with a 3.0 GPA, Nelson plans to attend Green River Community College. He is interested in environmental and natural resources study and wildlife conservation. Activities include baseball, vocational class work, woodworking, welding, small engine repair and building energy-producing windmills.
• Chris Weber, Auburn High School. Accumulated a 4.0 GPA. Plans to attend Reed College in Portland, and one day become a financial analyst/manager, consultant/economist. His interests are soccer, tennis, music (band) and business classes. Worked for the Auburn Parks, Arts and Recreation Department. Enjoys tutoring and AP classes.
• Michael Wong, Auburn Riverside High School. Graduated with a 3.7 GPA. ASB president. Plans to attend Chapman University (Orange, Calif.) and major in business administration and marketing. He hopes to enter the hospitality industry and be employed at Disneyland in guest relations. Wong is a self-taught magician who performs his own entertainment program. Comes from a single-parent family. Enjoys DECA activities, making films, participating in baseball, basketball, cycling, fencing and martial arts.
• Kylee Brown, Auburn Mountainview. Graduated with a 3.16 GPA. Completed AP and Running Start classes. Plans to attend GRCC to begin her studies in dental hygiene and complete them at Eastern Washington University. She has held a part-time job in a dental office for three years. Comes from a family of eight children, two of whom are disabled. Her interests are playing the piano and flute, singing and playing basketball.
• Jaime Shoop, West Auburn. Plans to attend Clover Park Technical College in Tacoma. Presented with a certificate for perfect attendance. Cited for her good writing skills on the school newspaper. Interests are photography and reading to children.
