Several neighborhoods, businesses and families participated in the 28th snnual National Night Out (NNO), a unique crime/drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW). Neighborhoods were encouraged to be a part of Auburn’s Night Out 2011 team.

Residents in neighborhoods throughout the city of Auburn and across the nation were asked to lock their doors, turn on the outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police on Aug. 2.

Along with the traditional outside lights and front porch vigils, most cities and towns celebrated National Night Out with a variety of special citywide and neighborhood events such as block parties, cookouts, parades, festivals, visits from local officials and law enforcement, safety fairs and youth events.

The Auburn Youth Council and Stephanie Luka, Fred Meyer, Auburn Police Department and volunteers, Sam’s Club, Valley Regional Fire Authority and Waste Management supported the NNO effort.
