Auburn Riverside High School Career and Technical Education students competed at the Washington State SkillsUSA Competition on April 15-17 in Yakima.
More thanr 900 of Washington’s top CTE students participated in this event. The following Auburn Riverside High School students participated and placed in the competition. Gold medalists qualify to compete at the National SkillsUSA Tournament in Kansas City, Missouri, on June 20-25.

Broussard honored
Brooke Broussard, a teacher in the Virginia Cross Native Education Center, was awarded a Colonial Williamsburg Teacher Institute Scholarship.
Broussard will travel to Williamsburg, Va., on June 16-23 and participate in Early American History learning opportunities at Colonial Williamsburg.
The Teacher Institute Scholarship was a competitive awards process open to outstanding teachers nationwide who teach American History.

Auburn’s Jeffery Kuhns was awarded a $2,000 presidential scholarship to attend Eastern Washington University for the 2010-2011 academic year. Kuhns, son of Larry and Michelle Kuhns, plans to study computer science. …
• Western Washington University student Kaitlin Mitchell, daughter of Thomas and Kimberly Mitchell of Lake Tapps, received two scholarships for the 2009-2010 academic year: a $250 Ada and Don Walter Endowment Scholarship and a $250 Arthur C. Hicks Piano Scholarship. The Ada and Don Walter Memorial Scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate musical ability and potential as music educators. The Arthur C. Hicks Piano Scholarship is awarded to an outstanding piano major selected by the keyboard faculty. Mitchell is majoring in music performance and has earned a 3.9 GPA at WWU. She is a member of the Tacoma Youth Symphony and the Auburn Riverside Quartet, and has participated in private viola and piano lessons. …
• WWU student Kyle Kearney, son of Ronald and Denise Kearney of Auburn, received a $1,300 Donald H. Cole Graduate Fellowship Scholarship for the 2009-2010 academic year. The scholarship is offered to students in the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program. Recipients are chosen by the MBA Committee of the College of Business and Economics. Kearney, a graduate student at WWU, earned a 3.27 GPA for his undergraduate work. He is currently seeking his masters degree in business administration and is planning to graduate this spring. Kearney worked previously as an intern for Boeing in Renton. His career goals include becoming a successful and effective manager at a Fortune 500 company. …
• Two Auburn Association of Educational Office Professionals (AAEOP) members were honored at the Washington Association of Educational Office Professionals (WAEOP) annual conference. Cris Cruickshank, administrative assistant and registrar at West Auburn High School, received the Paula Thomas Award. Cruickshank is the first AAEOP member to receive this award. Deyanna King, office manger of Auburn School District’s Student Special Services Department, was elected as the new WAEOP Area 7 Director and plans to begin her new position by developing a WAEOP Professional Development Day.
Additionally, AAEOP selected Toni Lally, Auburn School District executive director of business, as the 2009-10 Administrator of the Year. …
• Auburn’s Michael Everson was awarded a Leona Hickman Trust scholarship for $1,250 for the 2010-11 academic year at Eastern Washington University. The award is given to continuing EWU students who are from King County and maintain a 3.8-plus GPA. Everson graduated from Auburn Mountainview High School three years ago. He currently attends EWU where he is studying chemical engineering. Everson is the son of John Everson and Vicki Nishimoto.
• The following students made the Seattle Pacific University 2010 winter quarter dean’s list. Students on the Dean’s List have completed at least 12 credits and attained a 3.50 or higher grade point average. The Auburn students were: Mark Ableidinger, Amy Birk, Andrew Braeger, Karie Chamberlain, Peter Clyde, Nathanael Corley, Aaron Dunham, Denise Filley, Molly Pechacek, Emily Peterson, Brooke Reed and Robin Serquinia.
