The Auburn School District Board of Directors recognizes Lori Sheehan, para-educator at Olympic Middle School, for her outstanding service at 7 p.m. Monday in the board room at the James P. Fugate Administration Building.
Sheehan began her career in education as a substitute para-educator. She had been volunteering with the PTA at Dick Scobee Elementary and Greg Brown, the principal at that time, encouraged her start working as a para-educator.
After subbing in various schools for four years, Sheehan is in her fifth year at Olympic working with Shelley Warner in a special education classroom.
“Lori is an asset to our classroom and an exceptional para-educator,” Warner said.
Sheehan also is a certified special education teacher. She attended Grand Canyon University, did her student teaching in the Kent School District and has been certified since April of 2013.
She looks forward to having her own special education classroom. Her desire is to stay in the Auburn School District. She enjoys seeing the kids she teaches out in the community. She wants to work where she lives and votes.
“Her ability to build relationships with her students with high needs is remarkable,” said Olympic Principal Jason Hill.
Lake View Elementary student honored
The school board also recognizes Brielle Sherling, (inset photo) a fifth-grader at Lake View Elementary, for being an outstanding student on Monday.
Sherling works hard, participates in many activities and volunteers to help others. She is an outstanding student and member of the Lake View community.
She is Lake View’s ASB president, a member of the Service Club, a member of the Global Reading team and volunteer library helper. She also participates in the Lake View choir and is learning to play oboe in the fifth grade band.
Recently, she was in the cast of the Lake View Elementary and Missoula Children’s Theater production of “Cinderella”.
“We are very proud of her effort and growth and are especially proud that that she is a good, caring person who models what it means when we say that Lake View Cardinals ‘Fly with Pride,'” Principal Mike Weibel said.
