The Auburn School District Board of Directors recognizes Doreen Ahlberg, assistant cook/assistant kitchen manager at Alpac Elementary, for her outstanding service at 7 p.m., Monday, April 28 in the board room at the James P. Fugate Administration Building.

Ahlberg has worked in the district since October 1990. She has worked at Ilalko, Chinook, Olympic and Alpac at various points in her career. Her role is to help the kitchen manager do whatever needs to be done to prepare and serve breakfast and lunch to the students.

She serves breakfast to Olympic students and travels to Alpac for lunch.

Ahlberg previously worked for eight years in the food service area at the Auburn Adventist Academy.

She loves working with elementary students.

“They are so sweet,” she said. “They want to tell you all about their life.”

She fills in as kitchen manager when necessary, prepares and cooks food, serves breakfast, lunch and snacks, and then does clean up.

“Doreen is a very gentle, kind and caring person. She has outstanding work ethics in every way, every day. She is very dedicated to her duties and the people she works with and for,” said Alpac assistant cook Denise Kearney. “Everyone is delighted when they get to work with her.”

A longtime Auburn resident, Ahlberg graduated from the Auburn Adventist Academy. She has been married to Joel for 40 years. They have three grown children.

The board of directors also recognizes Hanna Moon-Earle, a fifth-grader at Lakeland Hills Elementary, for being an outstanding student on Monday.

Moon-Earle has been selected for her great academics, community involvement and positive impact on students at Lakeland Hills. She is a member of the Lakeland Hills Garden Club, Lego Club, Dr. Suess Club and the Global Reading Club.

She also dives into her schoolwork. She is exceeding expectations in all academic areas and is planning to take honors classes next year in sixth grade at Mt. Baker.

In addition to her stellar academics, Moon-Earle supports others in their educational pursuits. She is a strong mentor to an ELL student who has very limited English skills. Her mentoring has assisted this student in meeting reading goals.

She also works extensively in the Lakeland Hills library, helping with all of the needs there.

Outside of school, Moon-Earle is just as involved in numerous activities. She is in her sixth year of playing piano, her second year of playing the flute and recently joined the Federal Way Youth Symphony Orchestra. She plays tennis and swims on the YMCA swim club, specializing in the backstroke.
