Auburn Soroptimists reward agencies’ work for vicitims of domestic violence

The Soroptimist International Club of Auburn recently presented checks totally $15,000 to several local agencies in recognition of the work they do for victims of domestic violence.

The Soroptimist International Club of Auburn recently presented checks totally $15,000 to several local agencies in recognition of the work they do for victims of domestic violence.

The club sent its request for proposals to approximately 25 agencies and seven applications were returned.

Those receiving funding were:

• Salvation Army’s Catherine Booth House — Funds earmarked for a library of books, DVD’s, etc. on parenting and domestic violence. $1,000

• Sound Mental Health-Safe Havens Program – Funds earmarked for safe South King Counity visitation program for children of families of domestic violence. $5,000

• Family Renewal Shelter — Funds earmarked for fence (so children can play outside safely) and security for new confidential shelter for victims of domestic violence.$4,000

• Jennifer Beach Foundation — Funds earmarked for JB Kid’s Club for children impacted by domestic violence and “Hope and Power” classes offering financial literacy for victims of DV. $5,000

In addition to the $5,000 being awarded to Jennifer Beach Foundation, it will be will be the recipient of a “Raise the Paddle” opportunity at this year’s Soroptimist fundraising event Feb. 12 at the Meridian Valley Country Club. Details about the event can be found at www.siauburn.org.
