Auburn will observe the 59th annual National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 6. A proclamation from Mayor Pete Lewis will herald the landmark day.

Eleven Auburn pastors will lead a public prayer event from noon to 1 p.m. in the Auburn City Hall plaza. The public is invited.

“We are living in challenging times. Our great nation has come to a place where we no longer have the luxury of believing we are invulnerable,” said NDP coordinator Marjorie Gordon. “Prayers will be offered for America and its leaders in the five centers of power: Government, church, education, family and the media.

“National Day of Prayer is a powerful reminder of our need to unite before God regardless of cultural and denominational differences,” said Gordon, author of “Jumpstart to Power Prayers”. “This year’s theme, ‘For Such a Time as This’, is a reminder that our hope and security are in God. We are in days that would give way to despair if we were not a people who knew God was willing to hear and act in answer to our prayers.”
