Auburn’s Armendariz powers Utah State

Junior utility player Alleyah Armendariz, an Auburn Mountainview graduate, helped Utah State to a 3-2 record last week at the UNLV-hosted Rebel Classic.

The Aggies lost twice to DePaul (8-6 and 8-3), while defeating Valparaiso (18-4), Santa Clara (8-3) and Wisconsin (5-2).

Armendariz made her first appearance of the weekend in Friday’s win against the Crusaders, going 2-for-2 at the plate, while scoring two runs and recording two RBIs.

Against the Blue Demons, she hit .500 (2-of-4), including a double and scoring once.

Defensively, Armendariz added a team-best eight putouts.

Against the Broncos, Armendariz again batted .500 (2-of-4) with a double, two runs scored and one RBI, along with eight putouts at first base. And against the Badgers, she hit .333 (1-of-3) with one home run and two RBIs.

For the weekend, Armendariz batted a team-high .538 (7-of-13), which included two doubles and one home run. She also scored a team-leading six runs on the weekend, while batting in another five, and added 21 putouts defensively.
