Donations will go to the Auburn Food Bank.

The green-clad group also will station a decorated trailer/donation center at 309 L St. SE, near the high school, from 6 to 9 p.m. on Halloween.

Sophomores Nicole Moore and Emily Hennings spearhead the project. Others have joined in. The girls were inspired to conduct a drive after hearing Craig Kielburger, a Canadian activist for the rights of children, speak at a Tacoma Dome visit last May. Kielburger challenged communities to collect food for the hungry.

Auburn’s Feed The Need has picked up momentum. Fifty people have signed up to help with door-to-door collections. Each will be given five bags, courtesy of the Auburn Food Mart, to fill on Halloween.

Volunteers will be selling fluorescent Feed The Need green wrist bracelets at $1 each, with proceeds going to the food bank.

For more information or to volunteer, find Feed The Need on Facebook.
