Rep. Dave Reichert soon will be back on the job.

The congressman from Auburn was discharged from a Washington, D.C., hospital on Sunday and appeared in good spirits, according to Abbey Shilling, Reichert’s press secretary.

Reichert is recovering from a head injury sustained in a yard work accident back home in Auburn, Shilling said.

The congressman is due back in Washington state this week, Shilling said. Reichert represents the Eighth Congressional District in southeast King County.

Reichert was admitted to George Washington University Hospital last Wednesday after feeling ill.

Following an evaluation, doctors performed a procedure to address a chronic subdural hematoma – collection of blood on the surface of the brain – that was likely the result of a minor head injury, according to a statement. The procedure was successful, and he is expected to make a full and complete recovery.

Reichert was unable to vote on House matters during his hospital stay. He submitted for the record a reiteration of his no vote on the health-care bill.
