When Mary West planted 30 sunflower seeds in June, little did she know one would sprout seven feet tall come September.

“It’s still slowly growing,” said the Auburn woman as she glanced at the large sunflower in front of her home.

“I don’t know what to think of it. I’ve never seen anything like it.”

Mary and Tom West actually grew a massive sunflower last year, one that reached nine feet tall.

As the Wests can attest, Mother Nature is unpredictable.
