In recognition of National Frozen Foods Month (March), bestselling author Deborah Taylor-Hough will be bringing her popular “Cook for a Day, Eat for a Month” workshop to White River Presbyterian Church in Auburn, Washington on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon.
The workshop is free and open to the public.
By cooking her regular family meals for the freezer, Taylor-Hough saved $24,000 on her family’s total grocery bills over five years.
“At one point, I spent $700 per month on groceries and food-related expenses for our family, but was able to trim it down to around $300. By saving $400 a month, it multiplied out to an overwhelming figure when I did the math,” Taylor-Hough said.
Her method has been so successful, the book she wrote on the topic, Frozen Assets: How to Cook for a Day and Eat for a Month, has been a small press bestseller on Amazon.com for a number of years.
Taylor-Hough said, “Cooking in bulk for the freezer became my part-time job—the technique actually allowed me to stay home full-time with my kids while they were young.”
Cooking for the freezer helps her to plan ahead, purchase items in bulk, cut down on waste, and stop those all-too-frequent trips to the local drive-thru. “Plus,” she says, “my three kids aren’t on a first name basis with the pizza delivery man anymore!”
