The Valley Regional Fire Authority (VRFA) responded to the following calls for service between Sept. 22 and Sept. 28, among many others.
Sept. 22
Aid call: 6:59 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters treated a man who was struggling to breathe after a recent illness and fall, and then a private ambulance transported him to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center for further treatment.
Sept. 23
Bridge strike: 11:19 a.m. (Pacific). The raised hoist of a commercial roll-off truck hit the underside of State Route 167 at 3rd Avenue NW, stopping the truck abruptly and causing concrete debris to fall. Firefighters treated the driver, and then transported him to a local hospital. The Washington State Patrol and the Department of Transportation inspected the damage, and two northbound lanes remained closed while engineers assessed the bridge’s safety.
Sept. 24
Vehicle fire: 6:46 p.m. (Lakeland Hills). Firefighters responded to a passenger vehicle on fire in the parking lot of an apartment complex. Firefighters arrived to find a minivan with its hood up and smoke coming from the engine compartment. The occupant reported that oil had leaked onto a hot engine, causing smoke but no active fire. Firefighters confirmed there was no fire, and then ensured the area was safe before clearing the scene.
Sept. 25
Aid call: 3:29 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters treated a man who had suffered multiple traumatic injuries when a large steel beam struck him in an industrial accident, and transported him to Harborview Medical Center for further care.
Sept. 26
Aid call: 7:23 a.m. (Auburn). Firefighters treated a man who had suffered a head injury after falling from his wheelchair, and then a private ambulance transported him to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center for further care.
Sept. 27
Childbirth: 8:38 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responded to a woman who was in active labor, with contractions one minute apart after her water had broken. While King County Medic One paramedics were transporting the woman to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center, she delivered a baby boy in the medic unit upon arrival at the hospital.
Sept. 28
Motorcycle accident: 7:59 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responded with Mountainview Fire and Rescue and King County Medic One to treat a man who had suffered serious injuries injuries when his motorcycle crashed into a fence. Firefighters treated the man, and then King County Medic One transported to Harborview Medical Center.
