Hard work, learning and leadership are what Jeremy Call is all about.

“He’s willing to try different things, and learn from them,” said his father, Rod. “And he likes to do well in things he tries.”

An example of that is the 15-year-old Call’s commitment to Boy Scouts, something he has been involved with since he was 8. Jeremy took the steps, applied himself to the fullest and on Sunday will achieve the highest rank attainable in the program – Eagle Scout.

Jeremy’s Eagle Court of Honor will be held at 5 p.m. at the Lake Holm Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 19107 SE Lake Holm Road, Auburn. He represents Varsity Crew 340 of Scouting’s Foothills District, Chief Seattle Council.

Jeremy, son of Rod and Deanne Call, is the youngest of three brothers to earn the rank, following in the footsteps of Jason and Jarrod.

“I wanted to do what my brothers did,” Jeremy said. “My brothers are pretty good examples in life, and I wanted to be like them.

“And my parents encouraged me.”

For Jeremy’s culminating Eagle project, he led an effort to improve Lea Hill Park, located near Green River Community College. More than 50 volunteers pitched in from Jeremy’s Lake Holm Ward of the LDS Church, which is a charter sponsor for the Scouting program.

“People were coming to me asking what I wanted them to do,” Jeremy said of his project. “It took a lot of preparation before that day to be ready for their questions. But, for the most part, I was able to provide any needed direction.”

One person instrumental in the effort was Mike Miller, from the City of Auburn Park, Arts and Recreation Department’s maintenance group.

“Mike met with me on a number of occasions to discuss the project, and then provided all the needed materials for what I had planned,” Jeremy added.

Together, the group took steps to restore the Soos Creek wetland area by digging out blackberry bushes and removing large piles of debris. The group also repaired and repainted a dugout and a scorer’s building, along with a number of other improvements at the park.

Jeremy, a sophomore at Auburn High School, also participated in water polo, swimming and soccer for the Trojans.

After graduation, Jeremy would like to attend Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, fulfill a church mission, and eventually build a career.
