Car enthusiasts turn out for Terry Home Show & Shine charity car show | Slideshow

Gray skies and a touch of rain might have kept the rag tops buttoned up and dulled the gleam of the chrome on the classic rides, but they did nothing to dampen the giving spirit of participants at the recent 18th annual Terry Home Show & Shine Car Show.

More than 100 classic rides turned out at the Auburn Eagles Club to help raise money for Terry Home, a non-profit organization based in Pacific that provides a home to 10 individuals recovering from traumatic brain injuries.

“We had about 125 registered cars,” Myla Montgomery, president of the Terry Home board of directors, said. “It was about half of what we had last year. But we got slammed then because the weather was so nice. The folks that came this year said they had to come because it was for charity.”

Montgomery said that the show raised close to $7,000, minus expenses.

In addition to raising funds for Terry Home, Montgomery said this year’s event also raised $500 through raffle ticket sales to support the organization’s goal of generating money to open a second home.

“The Terry Home is full with 10 people,” Montgomery said. “We have a waiting list of 22.”

She added that the organization hopes to open a second home to provide support for veterans with traumatic brain injuries returning from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“There is a real need out there because of the veterans,” she said, adding that raffle tickets were available through the organization’s Web site at www.terryhomeinc.org.

“Considering the weather, we were very pleased,” she said. “We had a lot of good supporters and had a good time. We got lots of good donations from the community, and we appreciate every individual and organization that donated.”
