Child found dead in early morning fire

Father, two other girls escape blaze at Clearwater Ridge Apartments in Auburn

Firefighters found a 2-year-old girl dead in the ruins of an apartment fire in Auburn early Wednesday morning, according to the Valley Regional Fire Authority.

At 3:10 a.m. VRFA firefighters responded to a report of smoke and flames from a second-floor unit at the Clearwater Ridge Apartments in the 3700 block of Auburn Way South. Upon arrival, firefighters entered and found the child deceased.

The father of the girl and two other girls, ages 6 and 7, were in the apartment when the fire started, and escaped. The girls alerted the father when they heard the smoke alarm sounding, the VRFA said.

Firefighters contained the fire to the unit of origin. South King Fire & Rescue, King County Medic One, Puget Sound Fire Authority, the VRFA Chaplain and Zone 3 Fire Rehab helped the VRFA.

Investigators are working to determine the fire’s cause.
