Children and staff safely evacuated the Auburn Kinder Care Learning Center, located at 2916 Auburn Way S., following a fire in the kitchen at 4:38 p.m. Saturday.

All children are accounted for and no one was injured.

Valley Regional Fire Authority firefighters arrived at the childcare facility within three minutes and found that Kinder Care staff members had partially extinguished the fire. Crews entered the building, doused the remaining flames, ensured the fire had not extended into the ceiling or walls, and used high pressure fans to remove the smoke.

The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental in nature, resulting from food on the stove. The kitchen area suffered minor fire damage and the smoke damage to the entire building is considered moderate.
