City to continue water system testing

The City of Auburn Water Department will be flushing fire hydrants and testing the water distribution system between 3rd Street Northwest and 8th Street Northeast, from the railroad tracks to Auburn Avenue. The testing will begin Tuesday at 10 a.m. and should last approximately one hour.

This testing will provide the city with information needed to continue providing safe and adequate water service for both household and fire protection purposes.

Customers are advised not to use water during the test duration and to turn off ice makers and other automatic water-using equipment or appliances. During the tests, there may be a slight drop in water pressure. After the test, users may experience discolored water as mineral sediments are flushed from the system. The sediments and discolored water are not a health hazard.

To reduce household issues with discolored water, it is recommended that customers wait a minimum of one hour (longer if possible) after the test is complete and clear their service line prior to using water.

To clear your service line, open (turn on) the outside water faucet closest to the water meter and run water until it flows clear.

Once the water from the outside faucet is clear, flush a toilet or run water into the bath tub or shower until the indoor water is clear. Once the water is running clear, you may resume normal water use.

If your water does not clear within a few hours after following the above procedures, please contact the Water Utility at 253-931-3048.
