The City of Auburn Emergency Management Office is promoting National Disaster Preparedness month by hosting its second annual disaster fair Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Les Gove Community Campus.
In conjunction with the fair, a disaster preparedness poster coloring contest is being held for youth. All local youth are eligible to participate. Contest entries will be displayed in the multi-purpose building at Les Gove Park during the fair.
Complete information and entry forms for the poster contest are available at City Hall, at the Auburn Police Department, and at the Auburn Parks and Recreation Administrative Building or online at www.auburnwa.gov/disaster. The winners in each age bracket will have their art featured in upcoming disaster preparedness campaigns for the City of Auburn.
Vendors will be offering special pricing on disaster supplies for fair attendees and the White River Valley Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) will be giving demonstration of basic disaster response skills.
The event sponsored by the City of Auburn, the Valley Regional Fire Authority and the White River Valley Citizen Corps Council, is a fun-filled afternoon of adventure for the whole family featuring information, ideas, and supplies as well as vendor booths, disaster demonstrations, hands-on activities for kids and adults, preparedness information and safety mascots Rex, the national preparedness mascot for kids; Sparky the Fire Dog and McGruff the Crime Dog.
