The mayoral debate sponsored by the Auburn Reporter made it clear that Pete Lewis is prepared to lead our city through this challenging period of our history, and that Virginia Haugen is not ready for prime time.

Pete is carrying out a realistic plan to revitalize our downtown and economy, a plan developed through a partnership of citizens, developers, and government. He’s reacted to the threat of flooding by mobilizing the resources of the government and citizens.

As I watched Virginia grimmace, fumble and stumble through the debate, I felt like I was watching her audition for a bad “Saturday Night Live” skit. Her supporters call for “change.” Putting this curmudgeon in charge will be a change for the worse. If she cares about the city like she says she does, she should leave it in responsible hands.

Stick with the man with the right plan. Vote for Pete.
